What led Mackenzie to want to be involved with Curls For Queens?

“From the moment I became aware of the Curls For Queens fundraiser I knew I wanted to help. I am honored to serve on the board for this emerging non-profit organization. As a young girl, I grew up in a community with few people of color and it was always instilled in me to look my best and take pride in my appearance. It took time and my hair was always an added expense. I remember being self-conscious and at times frustrated that my hair was ‘different’ and required extra attention. In time, and with trial and error, I was able to navigate my way from discouragement to acceptance and now love. I wholeheartedly believe in the Curls For Queens goals of helping young women increase self-esteem, minimize financial hardships for their families and developing skills to grow into self assured women.”
